Purpose of Project

There are two groups of beneficiaries in the project. The first group are the health professionals working in the 20 health centres and their adjacent satellite health posts. The second group are the mothers and their small children in the mostly rural communities.

Goal
The maternal mortality rate and the infant mortality rate is significantly reduced in the three districts.

Objectives

In each of the 20 health centres the maternal and newborn health services have improved. The centres implement an adequate information and management system.

The demand und use by mothers, especially pregnant women, of maternal health services has increased.

The zonal health bureau of the ministry of health has an increased capacity to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the health services in three districts.

Project Manager

Dr Marco Scacchetti has the overall responsibility of the program. Abebe Dessalegne is the Public Health Coordinator (see picture).
