Women's Hope International is partnering with Women and Health Alliance International (WAHA) since June 2015 to treat and support women with obstetric fistula and other pelvic floor disorders in Asella, Oromia province.

Treatment of Obstetric Fistula

Purpose of Project

WAHA has longstanding experience and expertise in the treatment of women with obstetric fistula and pelvic disorders. One of WAHA's treatment centre is integrated into the Arsi University hospital in Asella. The beneficiaries are women with an obstetric fistula or other pelvic floor disorders in the South-Eastern part of the Oromia region.

Goal
The burden of obstetric fistula and other pelvic floor disorders from the South-Eastern part of the Oromia region is reduced.

Objective

Quality treatment and care for women with obstetric fistula or pelvic floor disorders is ensured.

Gynaecologists, medical students and nursing staff receive training regarding the treatment and care of obstetric fistula patients. 

The barriers to treatment for afflicted women is removed by providing for their transportation cost.

Stigma and misconceptions of the population associated with obstetric fisula and other pelvic floor disorders are mostly overcome.

Dr. Mulu Muleta is responsible for the management of the project. She is a world renowned fistula surgeon.
