Since July 2014 Women’s Hope International is partnering with LAMB (Luthran Aid Medicine Bangladesh) to implement a holistic community health project in the subdistrict Parpatipur, in the North of the country.

Purpose of program

Pregnant mothers, youths, disabled children and women with an obstetric fistula all belong to the target population. In the ten Unions of Parbatipur, with a population of approx. 300’000, the implementation of the program is carried out in close collaboration with the local government units and the local government health services. The holistic design of the program integrates the following components: 

Sexual and reproductive health and rights for adolescents

Maternal and child health services on community level

Citizen’s participation and women’s initiatives on community level

Identification, treatment and rehabilitation of disabled children and women with obstetric fistula

Goal
Increased health and resilience amongst mothers, children and youth from the poorest section of the population.

Objectives

Eleven safe delivery unit are active and are open 24 hours per day.

Each of the eleven safe delivery units is manged by a management team composed of unsalaried members.

The majority of pregnant mothers will go to antenatal clinics and give birth at a save delivery unit.

600 women’s groups take on responsibility for community health actions.

1,100 adolescents are trained as peer educators and take on responsibility regarding reproductive health issues, particularly against child or forced marriages.

600 disabled children are getting physical and social support, including access to schools.

300 women with obstetric fistulas receive surgery and new livelihoods.
